This morning I ate oatmeal for breakfast. When I was growing up my parents always liked to eat oatmeal in the morning, but I didn’t like it very much, and preferred cereal. I have never liked sugary cereals very much, but instead my favorite cereal has always been Cheerios. I was in the grocery store here recently and noticed that Cheerios, or anything comparable, do not exist here which surprised me since they are such a classic cereal.
I always like to eat cereal before doing activities or going on tours in Buenos Aires. Some of my favorite things to do in the city are tango shows, soccer games, and estancia visits. I actually remember reading not to long ago that cereal sales in general are down quite a bit in the United States. I wonder if that is true here in Argentina? The thing is that I don’t think many people eat cereal in Buenos Aires. Also, cereal is very expensive here, and it is all very sugary. The one cereal I like a lot here are the Quaker Oat Squares. They sell these in other countries too.
While I like cereal in the morning, I do not like to eat cereal at dinnertime. This is because I like to eat food that goes well with boutique malbecs, bonardas, and sometimes torrontes. I like to taste wine each night at dinner, as if I made my own great Buenos Aires wine tasting. I guess I have never had cereal with wine, but it doesn’t sound good to me. Maybe that would be a great new food pairing that could be used at wine tastings here in Buenos Aires, Argentina. These days I eat oatmeal though, which I think is healthier and also is cheaper than cereal. The major downside of eating oatmeal is that it takes longer to prepare than cold cereal.
